Custom Jewelry Manufacturing Process

How a Custom Jewelry Project Moves Through Production

Follow the 18 key production and quality-control steps that move a custom jewelry project from design development to finished products ready for shipment.

Phase 01

Design and Pre-Production

  1. Jewelry designer creating a custom jewelry sketchStep 01

    Jewelry Design

The project begins with a sketch, reference image, product idea, or existing sample supplied by the buyer.

  2. Custom jewelry CAD and 3D modelingStep 02

    CAD and 3D Modeling

The design is converted into a detailed CAD model to review its dimensions, proportions, stone positions, and structure.

  3. Jewelry mold and casting preparationStep 03

    Mold and Production Preparation

The approved CAD design is prepared for mold making, wax development, and the next production stage.

Phase 02

Wax Modeling, Casting and Initial Machine Finishing

  1. Jewelry designer creating a custom jewelry sketchStep 04

    Wax Carving and Model Refinement

The approved design is translated into a wax model and refined to confirm its shape, details, and casting readiness.

  2. Custom jewelry CAD and 3D modelingStep 05

    Metal Casting

The prepared wax model is converted into a metal jewelry component through the selected casting process.

  3. Jewelry mold and casting preparationStep 06

    Machine Polishing

Cast components receive initial machine polishing to remove rough surfaces and prepare them for detailed metal finishing.

Phase 03

Casting and Metal Preparation

  1. Jewelry casting quality-control inspectionStep 07

    Casting QC Inspection

Cast components are checked for deformation, cracks, incomplete areas, porosity, and visible structural defects.

  2. Jewelry casting cleanup and metal preparationStep 08

    Casting Cleanup and Metal Preparation

Excess metal and casting marks are removed before each component is shaped and prepared for further production.

  3. Prepared jewelry component quality inspectionStep 09

    Metal Preparation QC

Prepared components are inspected for shape, dimensions, joints, edges, and overall surface condition.

Phase 04

Stone Selection and Setting

  1. Jewelry stones being measured and selectedStep 10

    Stone Selection

Stones are selected and matched according to the approved size, shape, color, and product specification.

  2. Gemstone being positioned in a jewelry ring settingStep 11

    Stone Setting

Selected stones are carefully positioned and secured according to the approved setting design.

  3. Jewelry stone-setting quality-control workshopStep 12

    Stone Setting QC

The setting is checked for stone security, alignment, spacing, matching, and visible tool marks.

Phase 05

Polishing and Surface Finishing

  1. Jeweler polishing a jewelry ringStep 13

    Polishing

Jewelry surfaces are refined to remove marks and achieve the approved polished, matte, brushed, or textured appearance.

  2. Jewelry polishing quality-control inspectionStep 14

    Polishing QC Inspection

Polished pieces are inspected for scratches, uneven surfaces, damaged edges, and lost design details.

  3. Gold-colored jewelry components during platingStep 15

    Plating

The approved plating or surface treatment is applied to create the required color and final appearance.

Phase 06

Final Inspection and Shipment

  1. Jewelry plating quality-control inspectionStep 16

    Plating QC Inspection

Plated jewelry is checked for color consistency, complete coverage, surface marks, and finish uniformity.

  2. Finished jewelry ring size and quality inspectionStep 17

    Final Product QC

Finished jewelry is reviewed for appearance, dimensions, function, stone security, finish, and overall consistency.

  3. Finished jewelry packed and labeled for shipmentStep 18

    Packing and Shipment

Approved products are counted, individually protected, labeled, packed, and prepared for shipment.
